Softball Finishes Regular Season with Pair of Losses at No. 24 Middle Georgia

COCHRAN, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Softball concluded the regular season on Saturday with a trip over to Cochran, Ga. for an SSAC matchup against No. 24 Middle Georgia.

The Lady Barons (27-19, 13-13 SSAC) slipped in a pair of losses to the Knights (30-12, 19-7 SSAC) on the road, falling 5-1 and 7-2.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 1, MGA 5

Alexis Bradshaw opened the game with a base hit which was followed up by a bunt from Destiny Lucas before Tori Wright singled to center field to score Bradshaw. BPC left three runners stranded to close out the inning.

Middle Georgia responded during the bottom of the second with a bunt and an RBI single to level the score at 1-1, leaving the bases loaded as well. The Knights followed in the third with two hits to help push a second run home to take a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth, MGA moved to a 5-1 advantage with a two-out triple that scored a pair which was followed with another run scored on a wild pitch. Brewton-Parker recorded a leadoff single from Lucas in the sixth but were left scoreless. The Knights were held scoreless in the sixth despite notching a pair of hits.

Inside the Statistics
  • Middle Georgia led the game 10-4 in hits.
  • Lucas led BPC with two hits while Wright recorded a hit and an RBI.
  • Natalie O'Neal (13-12) tossed for 4.2 innings and gave away four earned runs on six hits while walking four and striking out three.
  • Maeleigh Burns pitched for 1.1 innings, allowing four hits for one earned run and a walk.
How It Happened | G2 – BPC 2, MGA 7

The Lady Barons opened the second game with a fortunate spell, taking advantage of a pair of Middle Georgia miscues while notching a leadoff single from Bradshaw. Bradshaw eventually made it home on an error from the catcher before Lucas scored on a sacrifice fly from Wright to move BPC to a 2-0 lead.

In the second, the Knights took advantage of a walk, a stolen base, and a sacrifice bunt to move a runner to third base. A sacrifice fly scored the runner to gain one back on the Lady Barons. MGA produced a double down the line, but BPC held the runner stranded to keep grasp onto the lead.

Middle Georgia exploded in the fourth inning with seven hits for six runs which was capped off by a two-RBI blast for a 7-2 lead. The rest of the game resulted in minimal offensive production for either team. Brewton-Parker battled in the seventh with singles from BryAnn Pound and Chloe Strickland, but the pair were left stranded to close the game.

  • Middle Georgia claimed another 10-4 advantage in hits.
  • Ashley Wilson, Bradshaw, Pound, and Strickland all notched a hit.
  • Wright produced the lone Lady Baron RBI for the game.
  • Kira Altman (12-7) pitched for 3.1 innings and gave away six earned runs on seven hits while walking a pair.
  • O'Neal returned to the circle for 2.2 innings, allowing three hits for one earned run and a walk.
