MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Baseball continued with the final series of the season with a doubleheader versus Middle Georgia on Friday.

The Barons (19-28, 11-19 SSAC) dropped game one in a 19-12 defeat but took game two with a 16-6 run-rule victory to split with the Knights (24-23, 15-15 SSAC) to end the 2024 campaign.

How It Happened | G1 - BPC 12, MGSU 19 (7 Inn.)

The Barons started the first inning on top as Carson Kirby hit a single and Jacob Mantooth was walked. Kennard Dawson hit a massive three-run homer over the center field wall to take a 3-0 lead.

Middle Georgia responded with a series of hits and a three-run homer of their own to take a 5-3 lead in the top of the second. In the bottom half of the inning, Kendell Wade and Kirby got on base with walks. Wade was batted in from a Kyran Coleman sacrifice fly while Mantooth scored Kirby with a double. Mantooth scored on a first base fielding error to give the Barons a 6-5 advantage.

In the top of the third, the Knights gathered two home runs and a few other hits to put the Barons in a 10-6 hole. In the bottom of the inning, Tate Worrell got hit by a pitch and Drew DeMasi picked up a single. Kirby cut Middle Georgia's lead to two with a two-RBI single.

The Knights kept the pressure on the Barons gathering seven runs in the top of the fourth to take a 17-8 lead. Mantooth picked up a leadoff home run to give the Barons their ninth run of the game.

BPC kept the Knights scoreless in the fifth inning and scored a run in the bottom of the inning. Jack Morris got walked and J. Reid Phillips came in to pinch run. Phillips got around the bases on errors and scored from a Coleman sacrifice fly.

In the sixth inning, Middle Georgia gathered a two-run home run to go up 19-10. Worrell picked up a single and Jordan Rahn hit a home run to move the deficit to seven. The seventh inning went scoreless, ending the game with a 19-12 BPC loss.

After holding Middle Georgia scoreless in the top of the first inning, Kirby hit a leadoff home run to give the Barons a 1-0 lead. Coleman and Mantooth followed with singles before Dawson hit a three-run home run over the left-field wall.

The Barons continued the momentum, with Son and Worrell getting on base with singles while Rahn got walked. After Phillips reached first on a fielder's choice, Worrell scored on Wade's Sacrifice fly and Rahn scored on a wild pitch giving the Barons a 6-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Middle Georgia gathered a walk and then a two-run home run to make it a 6-2 ball game. The Knights put themselves right back into the game with a three-RBI blast in the top of the third.

In the bottom of the third, Phillips and Wade got on base by getting hit by pitches and Kirby loaded the bases with a bunt single. Phillips came home when Coleman got hit by a pitch, and Wade scored on Mantooth's sacrifice fly. Dawson brought in Kirby with a ground out to give the Barons a 9-5 lead.

Brewton-Parker kept the pressure on the Knights, with Worrell and Rahn getting on base. Phillips reached on a fielder's choice and Worrell got out in the process. A double from Kirby brought in both Rahn and Phillips to improve the lead to 11-5. After Coleman got walked, Kirby advanced to third and then home off of a wild pitch. Mantooth ended the inning with a single to bring Coleman home to give BPC a 13-5 advantage.

Middle Georgia picked up a run in the top of the sixth inning off a wild pitch. In the bottom half of the inning, Phillips got walked and a bunt from Wade turned into a trip to third base from a Knights throwing error, scoring Phillips in the process. Kirby brought in Wade with a single to extend the BPC lead to 15-6.  

In the seventh inning, Dawson picked up a single to get on base. Matt Morgano ran for Dawson and advanced around the bases on a pair of wild pitches. Worrell came up and hit a single to bring in Morgano to end the game early 16-6.
