MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Seventh-seeded Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball continued postseason play on Thursday afternoon with a tough matchup against second-seeded and No. 25-ranked William Carey (Miss.) in Montgomery, Ala.
The Lady Barons (19-11) battled the Crusaders (21-4) with early punches in the first and second quarters to help secure a 56-45 victory to advance to the SSAC Women's Basketball Championship Semifinals in the Multiplex at the Cramton Bowl.

Steve Edwards. "I'm proud of our group. We put together a really good defensive plan today and we executed well. William Carey is well coached, and they will be a tough out in the national tournament."
How It Happened | First Quarter
The Lady Barons started the game slowly as the Crusaders made buckets at the 8:35 mark and the 7:02 mark for a 4-0 lead. Brewton-Parker eventually cracked the scoreless drought five minutes in with a three-pointer from
Cori Keats to cut the deficit to one.
After a jumper from William Carey a few moments later, the Lady Barons responded with a 10-0 run to close out the quarter with
Angel McRae scoring six and
Keonya Mincey finding four points for a 13-6 lead.
How It Happened | Second Quarter
Brewton-Parker put together an 11-5 run in the first six and a half minutes of the second quarter to hold a 24-11 lead. Mincey scored another four while
Samerria Bryant produced three.
The Lady Barons did well down the stretch, putting together an 8-4 run highlighted by a three from McRae and a trey from
Micah Bess in the final seconds before the break. BPC held a convincing 32-15 lead at the break after outscoring William Carey 19-9 in the quarter.
How It Happened | Third Quarter
William Carey came out of the halftime break hot with an 8-0 run in the first two and a half minutes, cutting the deficit down to 32-23. Mincey scored a pair of shots in the pair at the 6:57 mark and with 5:58 left to move the Lady Barons to a 36-23 advantage.
The Crusaders held Brewton-Parker scoreless in the final few minutes while scoring eight more points to cut the BPC lead down to 36-31 with 10 minutes of regulation to play.
How It Happened | Fourth Quarter
Mincey opened the quarter at the 8:23 mark with a pair of free throws for a 38-31 lead, but William Carey responded with a 7-2 run in the following two minutes of play to pull the deficit down to just two.
A layup of
A'Aliyah Clay and a trey from McRae moved BPC to a 45-38 lead and sparked a 12-2 stretch of scoring that helped to cushion the lead to a 12-point advantage with two minutes to play. The Lady Barons held strong in the final couple of minutes, holding the Crusaders to just five points to close out the game and resulting in a 56-45 victory.

- Brewton-Parker finished shooting 33.9% (19-of-56) from the field, 29.2% (7-of-24) from three, and 64.7% (11-of-17) from the foul line.
- Mincey led the scoring efforts with a game-leading 18 points while snagging two steals as well.
- McRae produced another double-double, scoring 14 points and gathering 15 boards while also dishing out five assists.
- Clay scored eight and produced four assists.
- William Carey led 41-38 in rebounding.
- BPC's defense recorded nine steals from the 16 turnovers given away by WCU.
- The Lady Barons held the lead for the remainder of the contest, beginning at the 3:05 mark in the first quarter.
