MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Soccer team faced off against the Life University Running Eagles to wrap up their string of make-up games and end the 2024 soccer season for Brewton-Parker. The Lady Barons did all they could, but the Running Eagles scored six goals in the first half and one in the second half to take a seven-nil victory, and there was little the Lady Barons could do.
Coach Philip Borde shared his thoughts on the season. "Even though our season did not pan out the way we wanted it to in the wins column, I give God thanks for the group of young ladies we have. We have a very young group that is eager to continue learning, which as a coach makes you excited to get to the training grounds. We will work this spring meticulously to fix the things we need to and continue to move forward.
In everything we do we will give God thanks and work as hard as we can to improve. This year our girls had to overcome so much adversity and did so. I am proud of them and excited to see what the future holds,"
First Half
The Lady Barons started the game being forced back on their heels as the Running Eagles wasted no time trying to score. Life got their first chance under a minute into the match, but Angel Camacho was there to stop it. Nine minutes later, the Running Eagles would get their first of many in the first half and open the floodgates. The Running Eagles would score in the 11th, 14th, 22nd, 23rd, and 28th minutes of the match to take a commanding six-goal first-half lead. Juliana Gallardo was awarded the only yellow card in the 29th minute.
Second Half
The Lady Barons kept the Running Eagles off the scoreboard for the first 22 minutes of the second half before Sacha Millward scored her second goal for the day. The Lady Barons played better defense in the second half, holding them to just one goal. Sadly, the Lady Barons could not generate any offense.
