DECATUR, Ala. – Brewton-Parker softball opened postseason play against No. 2-seeded Middle Georgia on Thursday at the SSAC Softball Championship in Decatur, Alabama.
The Lady Barons (19-24) dropped the matchup to the Knights (39-12) in a tough 6-0 defeat.
How It Happened
Brewton-Parker opened the game with two runners on base in the first inning with
Alexis Bradshaw earning a free base on an error while
MacKenzie Tripp was walked. Unfortunately, BPC left the pair stranded.
Middle Georgia found a score in the second inning, notching a leadoff double and two sacrifice hits to push home a run for a 1-0 lead. Bradshaw managed to produce a base hit in the top of the third but that was the lone hit in the inning.
The Knights moved to a 4-0 lead in the bottom half of the third inning with three hits and an error from the BPC defensive side. MGA added two more runs to the tally in the fourth taking advantage of another error as well as two hits, moving to a 6-0 lead.
Brewton-Parker's bats struggled to find the ball for the rest of the game as the only other hit fell in the seventh inning as
Ashley Wilson singled to center field. She was left stranded to close out the game as MGA took a six-run win.
Inside the Statistics
- Middle Georgia held an 8-2 hitting advantage as well as a 2-0 extra-base hit edge.
- Bradshaw and Wilson both notched a hit for BPC while Bradshaw notched a stolen base.
- The BPC defense gave up two errors while MGA produced one.
- Laykin Brown (6-14) received the loss, pitching for 4.1 innings. Brown gave up five earned runs on eight hits while walking a batter.
- Kristi Peters pitched for 1.2 innings as well.
