COCHRAN, Ga. – After a short hour drive west to Cochran, Brewton-Parker softball took on No. 11-ranked Middle Georgia on Thursday afternoon for an SSAC matchup.
The Lady Barons (15-17, 5-13 SSAC) challenged the Knights (27-7, 13-3 SSAC) but fell short in a pair of losses on the road.
How It Happened | G1 – BPC 1, MGA 3
Alyssa Usrey doubled in the opening inning to give BPC the first hit of the game, but she was left stranded as the Lady Barons were unable to produce much offense. After a scoreless first and top half of the second, Middle Georgia pieced together five hits to score two runs to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the second inning.
The Lady Barons struggled to put a barrel on the ball, notching just one hit in the fourth with a single from
MacKenzie Tripp after a walk from
Abbey Flowers. Despite the two on base, the pair were left stranded to close the inning.
Middle Georgia utilized a leadoff double and a single to score a run, moving to a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth. BPC eventually responded with a run of their own in the fifth inning.

Skylar Strickland reached on a walk. After a sacrifice bunt from
Ashley Wilson,
Alexis Bradshaw reached via an error which pushed a runner home for the lone score for Brewton-Parker. The game ended swiftly from there as both teams were held hitless and scoreless for the remainder of the contest, as the hosts were able to capture a 3-1 victory.
Inside the Statistics
- Middle Georgia led 8-3 in hits and totaled three doubles while Brewton-Parker had one from Usrey.
- Laykin Brown (6-9) pitched for the entire game, allowing eight hits and three earned runs. Brown also notched two strikeouts in the game.

Brewton-Parker notched a hit in the first inning with a leadoff single from Bradshaw and followed up with a stolen base at second, but she was left stranded. Middle Georgia recorded three hits and scored a run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.
In the second,
Josalin Whitten connected for a two-out single but that was all BPC could produce in the inning. The Knights took a three-run lead in the bottom of the second, notching three hits in the process.
MGA followed up in the fourth with two more runs to take a 5-0 advantage, utilizing an error from the Lady Barons' defense. BPC got a run back in the fifth with a leadoff error for Whitten to reach first.
Skylar Strickland singled to move Whitten and was followed up by a fielder's choice for
Cayden Fleming which loaded the bases. After another fielder's choice, Whitten was pushed home off
BryAnn Pound's at-bat to cut the BPC deficit down to four runs.
The hosts singled to open the bottom half of the sixth inning, and eventually stole home to take a 6-1 lead. Unfortunately for BPC, the deficit was too large with too little opportunities left in the game as the Knights were able to shut things down in the seventh for the 6-1 victory.
Inside the Statistics
- MGA held a 9-4 hit advantage over BPC while Fleming had the lone double of the game.
- The Knights also led 4-1 in stolen bases.
- Pound led with the RBI while four individuals notched a hit each.
- Natalie O'Neal (4-3) received the loss after giving up three earned runs off six hits in the first two innings.
- Emma Garner closed out the last four innings, giving up two earned runs, three hits, and two walks.
