Edwards Earns 100th Career Win as Lady Barons Advance Past St. Thomas

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball traveled to warmer weather to compete in the SSAC/SUN Crossover Challenge in Florida, challenging St. Thomas (Fla.) on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Barons (3-0) downed the Bobcats (1-1) in a solid 68-51 win in neutral territory to help secure Head Coach Steve Edwards' 100th career victory as the leader of the BPC Women's Basketball program.

"We beat a really good team today," Edwards said. "Our group played hard, and they played well together. Defensively, we were solid and that is where we want to continue to improve."

"Our poise was good, and we look forward to getting right back at it tomorrow," Edwards added.

Brewton-Parker opened the game with an 8-2 lead early with Madison Evans and Angel McRae both netting four points apiece, shooting 4-of-8 from the floor as a team.

After back-and-forth play between the two teams, STU eventually grabbed a 25-24 lead with 3:22 on the clock by knocking down a shot from beyond the arc. McRae reclaimed the lead for BPC with an "and-one" before the Bobcats netted one final bucket for a 28-27 lead with 1:37 remaining.

However, a layup from Micah Bess with the assist from Evans boosted the Lady Barons to a 29-28 lead at the break.

How It Happened | Third Quarter

The Lady Barons came out of the halftime break strong, knocking the Bobcats back onto the ropes with a dominant 10 minutes by outscoring St. Thomas 23-9.

A trey from Mincey at the 3:42 mark and an "and-one" from Evans helped boost BPC to a double-digit advantage as the Lady Barons remained within a double-figure lead for the rest of the contest.

Both Tori Dorsey and Mincey lit the period up, scoring eight points each. Dorsey shot 3-of-5 from the field while Mincey was 2-of-3 from the floor and 2-of-2 on the foul line. Evans also gathered five points.
