VALDOSTA, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball competed in exhibition action on Monday night with a battle at NCAA Division II opponent Valdosta State (Ga.).
The Lady Barons (5-1) challenged the Blazers (2-1) in a bout on the road on the hardwood of "The Complex" in Valdosta, dropping in a 75-59 defeat.
"It's always fun playing really good teams in either Division I or Division II," Head Coach
Steve Edwards said. "Valdosta State is a great D2 program, and we competed well today. We played a really good game."
"We were able to get the shots we wanted, and we competed defensively," Edwards mentioned. "We were in striking distance for most of the game. Several people showed us some good things to build upon and we are looking forward to some rest as well as preparation for our conference opener."
How It Happened
The Lady Barons battled against the Blazers on Monday night, falling early with a 23-15 first quarter. Valdosta narrowly edged out Brewton-Parker in the second quarter 18-17 to close out the first half with a 41-32 lead at the break.
Angel McRae opened with a seven-point effort in the first frame and was followed by five points from
Madison Evans and
Keonya Mincey in the second period. As a team, BPC shot for 31.2% (10-of-32) from the field, 35.7% (5-of-14) from three, and 87.5% (7-of-8) from the charity stripe in the first half.
Valdosta State was able to keep a double-digit cushion for the remainder of the game, beating out BPC 18-15 in the third quarter and 16-12 in the fourth quarter. The Lady Barons shot for their best field goal percentage in the third quarter, shooting for 38.4% (5-of-13) from the floor and also shot a perfect 3-for-3 from the foul line.
Inside The Statistics
- A total of three Lady Barons recorded double figures with Evans leading the way with 20 points, followed up by Mincey with 14 and McRae with 11.
- BPC shot for 32.8% (19-of-58) from the floor, 34.6% (9-of-26) from three, and 70.6% (12-of-17) from the charity stripe.
- Micah Bess, Evans, and Mincey all gathered three assists each.
- McRae led with three steals and seven rebounds.
