Firehawks Burn Past Men’s Soccer on Saturday

PULASKI, Tenn. – Brewton-Parker Men's Soccer continued its weekend road trip towards the northwestern portion of the Southern States Athletic Conference with a contest at Tennessee Southern in Pulaski on Saturday evening.

The Barons (1-12-1, 0-8-1 SSAC) were outmatched by the Firehawks (9-4-1, 4-3-1 SSAC) in a 6-0 loss.

How It Happened | First Half

After a missed opportunity in the 8th minute and an attempt saved by Jake McCarthy in the 11th minute, Tennessee Southern broke through at the 11:08 mark to open with a 1-0 lead. The hosts notched two more shots minutes later with André Xavier finally giving BPC its first shot in the 22nd minute.

UT Southern responded with another goal at the 22:53 mark for a two-goal edge. Danny Guerra pushed a shot wide right in the 31st minute just before the Firehawks moved to a 3-0 advantage just 30 seconds later.

McCarthy came up with a pair of saves before the break as the Firehawks continued to apply pressure to the Barons. UTS finished the first half with a 14-2 shot advantage with a total of six shots on goal.

How It Happened | Second Half

The second half was all UT Southern early as the Firehawks scored at the 46:31 mark for a four-goal cushion above Brewton-Parker. After another save from McCarthy in the 53rd minute, the Firehawks rattled off goals in the 54th and 55th minutes to move to a 6-0 lead.

Brewton-Parker struggled in the second half offensively, failing to register a shot. The defensive efforts held strong from the 55th minute on as McCarthy tallied seven more saves throughout the half to keep BPC at the six-goal deficit with the backline earning a team save as well.
