Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Faulkner on Monday Night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball traveled to Montgomery, Ala. on Monday night to face Faulkner (Ala.) in a rescheduled matchup that was originally slated for Jan. 15.

The Lady Barons (12-9, 6-7 SSAC) were downed by the Eagles (13-11, 6-6 SSAC) as BPC struggled with a second-half slump.

"Today was one of the worst performances we've had as a group," Coach Steve Edwards mentioned. "We were stuck in mud all night and we played uninspired. We won't make any excuses and we have to give Faulkner credit."

How It Happened

Faulkner opened the game with a bucket to take the lead early, but Brewton-Parker answered with a three from Keonya Mincey to capture the lead. The Eagles built up to a 10-5 lead with 4:20 remaining in the first quarter. BPC pulled the score back level with a 6-1 run, equalizing the game at 11-11 with 1:53 left. The Lady Barons reclaimed the lead with 0:35 remaining but Faulkner utilized three throws to close out the quarter with a 16-14 lead.

Brewton-Parker captured the lead in the second quarter to lead by two, early. Faulkner answered swiftly to pull back out to a four-point lead and eventually built to a seven-point lead with 3:50 left to play in the half. BPC fought back from the seven-point deficit to level the game at the half with the score level at 35-35. The Lady Barons outscored the eagles 21-19 in the second quarter to level the scoreline at the break.

The Eagles came out in the third quarter hot with a dominant 10 minutes of play, outscoring the Lady Barons 23-8. Faulkner closed out the third quarter with a 15-point cushion, leading 58-43 with 10 minutes left to play in the game.

In the fourth quarter, Faulkner held Brewton-Parker to just 10 points to secure the win, outscoring BPC by seven points. The Lady Barons struggled to find the basket on the offensive end of the floor and the second-half slump doomed BPC for the seventh loss this season, dropping the game, 75-53.

Inside The Statistics

  • Alexia Galloway led with 12 points followed by Angel McRae with 10. McRae picked up another double-double performance on the season with 14 rebounds on the night.
  • BPC shot for just 27% (20-of-74) from the floor and only 9.1% (3-of-33) from three-point distance.
  • The Eagles outrebounded the Lady Barons 47-42 on the night.

Other Notables

  • Faulkner gave up 13 turnovers while BPC gave up 11. The Eagles utilized those turnovers, outscoring the Lady Barons 17-9 off the giveaways.
