Women's Basketball Falls in Battle Against Faulkner; Eagles' Hot Shooting Downs Lady Barons, 77-66

Box Score

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball battled against Faulkner (Ala.) in the home finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Barons (13-10, 7-8 SSAC) were downed by the Eagles' (15-11, 8-6 SSAC) hot shooting, 77-66.

"We battled but we didn't make the necessary plays needed to beat a hot Faulkner team today," Coach Steve Edwards said. "Our young players are giving us everything we have asked of them. We are looking for a few of our veteran players to step up as we get closer to postseason play."

How It Happened

Faulkner opened the game with back-to-back threes to lead by two possessions early. Brewton-Parker answered seven points to capture the lead, 7-6 with 6:36 left in the first quarter. The Eagles went on a 12-0 run for the next few minutes to lead by 11 points with 3:19 left. Faulkner closed out the quarter with a 17-point lead after outscoring Brewton-Parker 28-11 in the first 10 minutes of play.

After Faulkner opened the second quarter with seven points for a 24-point lead, Brewton-Parker turned the tables in the second quarter by chipping away at the deficit. BPC notched a 10-2 run to pull the lead down to 16 with 5:33 left in the first half. The Lady Barons outscored the Eagles 25-13 to pull the deficit down to five points at the break. Keonya Mincey led BPC with six points in the second quarter going 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

Brewton-Parker utilized a 7-2 run over the opening five minutes of the second half to level the score at 43-43. Faulkner remained in control despite Brewton-Parker's efforts. With 2:41 left to play in the quarter, the Eagles pulled to a six-point lead. BPC closed out the quarter with five points from Madison Evans, but Faulkner answered with a three-point play to lead, 55-51 in the final seconds of the period.

After a jumper from McRae to open the fourth quarter, BPC found themselves creeping back into contention for control of the score. Both teams traded trips down the floor with buckets, but Faulkner continued to be poised down the stretch.
