Box Score

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker volleyball program defeated Pensacola Christian (Fla.) 3-1 in the 2021 season opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Barons were able to capture Head Coach Ashley Wingers' first win in the first game at the helm of the program.

Brewton-Parker was able to take set one 25-21 for the 1-0 lead in the match. The second set was taken by the Eagles 29-27 to even the match at one apiece. The Lady Barons took control of set three, closing the set 25-12 to move their lead to 2-1. Brewton-Parker sealed the game with a four-set 25-19 win, capturing the match 3-1.

After the victory, Coach Wingers expressed her thoughts on the team's performance today and how they can continue to improve as student-athletes. "Today we were able to see a great team effort," Wingers said. "I witnessed one team working together towards the common goal of serving each other as teammates."

"Today, each student-athlete took their role seriously and put forth the best effort they could; both on and off the court," Wingers added. "Our focus this season is to become great teammates and for us, the first step is learning to be selfless by placing others' needs before our own."

"I believe we saw that today from the team because we had girls cheering from the sidelines and even some serving at the scorer's table," Wingers mentioned. "They chose to put self to the side and place the team's needs first which created a mindset that permeated our group, which showed on the court."

"I am excited to see the commitment they have for each other and that the mentality of selflessness is finally showing up on the scoreboard," Wingers added. "I am very humbled and grateful for the opportunity to coach this group and I look forward to improving on what we saw today."

The Lady Barons return to play next weekend as they are set to face Pensacola Christian, Florida College, and Montreat (N.C.) in a tri-match hosted by Florida College on Aug 27-28 in Temple Terrace, Fla.
