Lady Barons Down Running Eagles 67-53 in Non-Conference Matchup

MARIETTA, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball returned to action on Thursday night with a matchup against non-conference opponents Life (Ga.).

The Lady Barons (8-3) downed the Running Eagles (4-7) 67-53 on the road, moving to eight wins on the season.

"We got a big road win tonight," Head Coach Steve Edwards said. "We are coming together as a group and we are getting better defensively. It was also great to have some wonderful BPC support on the road tonight. We appreciate everyone that came out to support us."

How It Happened

The Running Eagles opened the game by going up 9-2 over the Lady Barons. Brewton-Parker pieced together several opportunities down the floor to eventually capture the lead at 13-12 with just under four minutes to play in the opening period. Life managed to equalize the scoreline but Brewton-Parker answered by taking a three-point, 19-16 lead to close out the first quarter.

The Lady Barons jumped out to an eight-point lead on a 7-3 run before gathering its first double-digit lead of the night. After a few minutes of scoreless efforts, both teams traded shots to close out the half with Brewton-Parker leading 36-28.

In the third quarter, the Lady Barons opened with a three-pointer to lead by 11 points. The Running Eagles answered with back-to-back buckets to pull within single digits. Over the course of the following few minutes, Life slowly began chipping away at Brewton-Parker's lead. The Running Eagles utilized a 9-0 run, surging back into the game with an even 41-41 scoreline with just over three minutes to play in the period. The Lady Barons answered with a 9-2 run to close out the period with a 50-43 lead.

Brewton-Parker slowly built to a double-digit lead in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, outscoring Life 10-6. The Lady Barons continued adding to the Running Eagles' deficit throughout the final minutes of the game. Brewton-Parker outscored Life 7-4 to close out the game with a 14-point, 67-53 lead.

Inside The Statistics

  • Three BPC players gathered double-digit points with Madison Evans leading the charge with 15 points. Angel McRae and Cisley Copper both notched 11 points apiece.
  • McRae also led the Lady Barons with eight rebounds and five assists on the night.
  • As a team, Brewton-Parker shot for 45.6% (26-of-57) from the field, 40% (9-of-20) from three-point range, and 77.8% (7-of-9) from the charity stripe.
