Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball competed against SSAC opponent Stillman (Ala.) on Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Saturday's game was originally scheduled to happen on Dec. 4 but was postponed. The Lady Barons (8-4, 2-2 SSAC) fell to the Tigers (5-5, 1-2 SSAC) in a tough road battle.
"We took one on the chin today," Head Coach Steve Edwards said. "We were outworked and Stillman was much tougher than us. We aren't very tough and today it showed. We need to be tougher to maximize our potential as a team."
How It Happened
Stillman opened the game with back-to-back buckets to lead 5-0 before Brewton-Parker answered with two consecutive scores themselves to pull within one point. The Tigers did not give up a lead to the Lady Barons in the quarter as they controlled the scoreline for all but two equalizing opportunities for Brewton-Parker. The Lady Barons leveled the game at the 3:35 and 2:55 mark, but Stillman managed to close the quarter with a 22-17 lead.
The Tigers continued to control the score in the second period as they pulled away to an 11-point, 28-17 lead in the first four minutes. Brewton-Parker responded with five points, but Stillman remained unfazed, going on a 10-3 run to lead by 13 points. Brewton-Parker closed the half outscoring Stillman 7-4, but the Tigers still led by 10 with a 42-32 lead at the break.
To open the third period, Stillman scored to move its lead to 12 before Brewton-Parker returned with back-to-back jumpers to pull under double-digits. The Lady Barons were able to pull the deficit down to seven points, but the Tigers outscored BPC 10-4 in the final three minutes to lead 59-45 with a quarter to play.
In the fourth quarter, Stillman was able to remain in double-digits for the opening few minutes with Brewton-Parker going on a long, 10-0 run that covered about six minutes to pull the deficit back to just four points. Stillman closed the game on a 6-1 run to pull away and win the game 70-61.
Inside The Statistics
- Three BPC players gathered double-digit points with Sy-Marieona Williams leading the way with 17 points followed by Madison Evans and Tajah'nae Wiggins both scoring 14 points apiece.
- Angel McRae led the Lady Barons with 10 rebounds and was two points shy of a double-double performance with eight points. Wiggins gathered a team second-best eight rebounds on the afternoon.
- As a team, BPC shot for 40.7% (24-of-59) from the field, 25% (6-of-24) from three, and 53.8% (7-of-13) from the free-throw line.
- The BPC bench produced 25 points.
Other Notables
- The Tigers outrebounded the Lady Barons 40-34 on the day.
- Both teams were close in both assists and turnovers. Stillman led 15-14 in steals with the Lady Barons turning the ball over 16 times while the Tigers gave it up 18.
- The overall series against Stillman is now tied 4-4.
