Women's Soccer Downs Faulkner in Double-Overtime Win in SSAC Tournament Opening Round

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – On Thursday night, the Brewton-Parker women's soccer program hosted Faulkner (Ala.) for the SSAC Tournament Opening Round.

The third-seeded Lady Barons (10-9-0) downed the sixth-seeded Eagles (4-12-1) to advance to the final site in Montgomery, Ala. for the next round of the tournament.

How It Happened

  • Both teams found it hard to produce many chances offensively. The Eagles outshot the Lady barons 6-4 in the first half with both sides gathering two shots on goal each.
  • After the break, Brewton-Parker attacked and controlled most of the offensive pressure during the second half. The Lady Barons outshot the Eagles 11-4 overall and 7-1 in shots on frame. Unfortunately, Brewton-Parker struggled to find the back of the net in regulation as both sides headed to overtime.
  • In the first overtime period, both sides notched three shots apiece with a shot on goal each to continue the stalemate into the second overtime period.
  • With 100 minutes of soccer played, both teams advanced to the second overtime period. The Barons were able to find that elusive goal in the 103rd minute as Kadisha Martina slipped the ball past the Faulkner goalkeeper to secure the win with the help of Sarah De Gannes. Brewton-Parker finally connected on an offensive opportunity with Martina's golden goal to win 1-0 in double overtime.

Inside The Statistics

  • As a team, Brewton-Parker led 19-13 in overall shots and 11-4 in shots on goal.
  • The Faulkner keeper gathered 10 saves while Kelsie Stapler notched four saves and a clean sheet in the 102 plus minutes played.
  • Aurora Miglio led the Lady Baron attack with six shots overall and three shots on goal. Martina notched four shots overall and three on goal while also bagging her 16th goal of the season.

Next Up

  • With the win, the Lady Barons move to the SSAC final site in Montgomery and are set to take on No. 2 seed Middle Georgia on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. ET at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.
