Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Brewton-Parker women's soccer program took on Middle Georgia in the SSAC Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon in Montgomery, Ala.
The Lady Barons (10-10) fell to the Knights (13-5) 4-3 in a hard-fought battle to close out the 2021 campaign.
How It Happened
- The Knights opened the scoring in the 9th minute to lead the Lady Barons 1-0.
- 17 minutes into the match, Kelsie Stapler came off her line to gather a ball in the box but was challenged and fouled on the play. Stapler picked up a knock and was ruled out for concussion protocols. Sophia Nicholls came into the match for Stapler to defend the BPC goal.
- After much back-and-forth between both sides, Middle Georgia added to the tally in the 27th minute to lead 2-0.
- Brewton-Parker responded late in the half with a goal of their own coming from Aurora Miglio in the 41st minute. Miglio found the back of the net from a free-kick just outside the box which was slotted past the keeper in the upper 90. The Lady Barons were able to pull within one goal at the break.
- In the opening moments of the second half, Brewton-Parker quickly attacked Middle Georgia and score in the 47th minute to equalize the match. Kamryn Laster netted the equalizing goal with the help of Kadisha Martina.
- Just moments later in the 51st minute, Martina scored the go-ahead goal with the assistance from Vayda Kozup to lead 3-2 over the Knights.
- Middle Georgia began shifting momentum in their favor before breaking through with an equalizer in the 63rd minute to bring the match to a 3-3 tie.
- With about 22 minutes remaining in the match, Nicholls made a diving effort at a wayward shot and knocked into the post, stopping the match due to injury. Fortunately, after some medical assistance, Nicholls was able to return to the match without issue.
- The Knights added another in the 70th minute to reclaim control of the lead and were able to hold off the Lady Barons for the remainder of the match.
Inside The Statistics
- Individually, Sarah De Gannes and Martina led with two shots overall. Martina also gathered two shots on goal. Martina, Miglio, and Laster were all credited for goals for the Lady Barons while Kozup and Martina picked up an assist each.
- As for the teams, Middle Georgia lead 20-8 in overall shots and 10-5 in shots on goal.
- In goal, Nicholls picked up four saves in 73 minutes of action while Stapler notched a save in the opening 17 minutes.
Next Up
- With the loss, the Lady Barons' season has likely ended with national qualifiers being announced by the NAIA on Nov. 15 at Noon ET. Brewton-Parker will close the season with a 10-10 overall record and a 5-2 conference record.
