Women's Soccer Falls to Middle Georgia 1-0 on Thursday Night

COCHRAN, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker women's soccer program headed to Cochran, Ga. to take on cross-state and SSAC rival, Middle Georgia on Thursday night.

The Lady Barons (9-9, 5-2 SSAC) fell to the Knights (12-4, 6-1 SSAC) with a second-half score from Middle Georgia, sealing the fate for Brewton-Parker.

Before the match, both teams were tied for second with 15 points in the standings and a lot on the line for postseason play. Thursday's match was an opportunity for the winner to stake their claim for second place in the SSAC standings and to earn the second of two opening-round byes to the conference tournament final site in Montgomery, Ala.

How It Happened

  • The first half was lackluster for both sides as the first 45 minutes came to a scoreless draw. Both teams were held to single-digit shot opportunities as Middle Georgia led 6-4 in total shots. The Lady Barons found two shots on goal with the Knights recording one.
  • In the second half, opened with two scoring opportunities early before breaking the stalemate in the 58th minute to lead 1-0.
  • After the score, both teams traded shots but neither side found the back of the net as both sides were drawn at seven shots apiece to close out the match.

Inside The Statistics

  • As for the team stats, Middle Georgia gathered a total of 16 shots with seven on frame while Brewton-Parker totaled 11 shots with just four on goal.
  • In goal, Kelsie Stapler notched six saves in the full 90 minutes played for BPC.
  • On the offensive end, Kadisha Martina and Melia Cunningham both led the Lady Barons with three shots and one shot on goal each. Kamryn Laster notched two shots with one landing on frame as well.
  • Both teams split corners with four apiece.

Next Up

  • With the loss, the Lady Barons now finish the regular season at third in the SSAC standings, earning the third seed in the SSAC Tournament. Brewton-Parker is now set to host sixth-seeded Faulkner (Ala.) next week with the scheduled date to be announced later.
