Women's Soccer Defeats Dalton State 2-1 with Second Half Surge

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. -- The Brewton-Parker women's soccer program defeated Southern States Athletic Conference foe Dalton State (Ga.) 2-1 on Thursday evening.

The Lady Barons (8-8, 4-1 SSAC) bested the Roadrunners (7-7, 2-2 SSAC) with a pair of second-half goals, surging to the fourth conference win of the season with just two match to play in the regular season.

How It Happened

  • The first half was slow for both sides as the match was 0-0 for the opening 45 minutes. Brewton-Parker tallied five shots with Dalton State recording a total of two.
  • The Lady Barons were able to record three shots on goal with the Roadrunners recording two.
  • The second half started off slowly for both sides, but the stalemate was broken as Dalton State was able to take advantage of an own goal from the Lady Barons, leading 1-0 in the 61st minute.
  • Just minutes later, Brewton-Parker responded with a goal from Kadisha Martina to even the match 1-1 in the 64th minute. Alexandra Viera connected a pass to Martina who slotted home the goal.
  • The Lady Barons added another in the 71st minute as Viera connected on a cross from Sarah De Gannes, heading the ball past the Roadrunner keeper for the 2-1 lead.
  • Brewton-Parker pressured Dalton State offensively for the following few minutes, outshooting the Roadrunners 3-1.
  • However, Dalton State found themselves in a prime position to even the match as they were given a penalty opportunity in the 82nd minute. Fortunately for the Lady Barons, the penalty kick sailed wide, and they were able to hold on to their lead for the final eight minutes to secure the victory.
  • Both teams split in overall shots in the second half with seven shots apiece.

  • Brewton-Parker led the match with a total of 12 shots and eight shots on goal. The Lady Barons allowed the Roadrunners to gather a total of nine shots and five on frame.
  • Individually, Martina proved to be an offensive engine leading the Lady Barons with a total of five shots with four on goal and her lone score in the 64th minute.
  • Viera gathered her first goal of the season during the match as well as picked up the third assist of her senior campaign.
  • De Gannes produced an assist in the match; her third this season.
