HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Brewton-Parker Men's Track and Field program completed the final day at the SSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Barons earned a runner-up finish with 196 team points after falling behind William Carey (Miss.) who won with 218 team points.
Noteworthy Facts
Brewton-Parker claimed individual titles in three field events; one on Friday and two on Saturday. In addition, the Barons had three or more scorers in six of the track events as well as five of the field events.
How It Happened
In the javelin, BPC placed two Barons on the podium with Firdan Keflinzein earning first-place honors. Keflinzein threw 47.78 meters for first place followed by Jamon Tymes in third with a mark of 45.01 meters. Jordon Solomon and La'eeq Mahdi also competed in the event. Solomon finished in 6th (33.45m) followed by Mahdi in ninth (32.26m).
Three Barons scored points in the long jump with Mahdi earning the highest finish in fourth place, recording a mark of 6.58 meters. Colt Brantley landed at seventh (5.94m) followed by Keflinzein in eighth (5.92m). Cordae Riggins was just shy of earning points in ninth with a mark of 5.89 meters.
Nathaniel Shields secured a first-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.80 meters followed by Solomon in second with a mark of 3.20 meters.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Jordan Hackett led the way with a fifth-place finish and a time of 12:22.17. Hunter Milhollin finished sixth (12:34.43), Frankie Williams finished eighth (13:05.41) and Ryder Sasser finished ninth (13:42.02).
During the 4x100 relay, the BPC squad recorded a second-place finish with a time of 42.09 seconds. As for the 4x400 relay, BPC's squad finished with a time of 3:21.52 for second place.
DeMario Thomas led the barons in the 1,500-meter race with a fifth-place finish, recording a time of 4:21.60. Aaron Pinckard finished seventh with a time of 4:27.18 followed by Simon Steele in eighth with a time of 4:28.72. Mason Smith finished 11th (4:52.29).
Brandon Schultz finished as a runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.50s. Bradley Taylor finished in fourth with a time of 15.35 followed by Calab Williams in seventh with a time of 18.11.
The Barons picked up three scorers for the 400-meter dash as Jaylen Mable led the charge with a podium placement, finishing third with a time of 49.34. Warren Hollis finished fifth with a time of 49.91 followed by Deandrea Jolly in seventh with a time of 50.66.
During the 100-meter dash finals, Ty'Sheem Denton finished third with a time of 10.91 with Lil'Vasco Winfrey close behind in fifth with a time of 11.04. Brantley rounded out BPC with a seventh-place finish of 11.20.
As for the 200-meter dash finals, Denton ran a time of 22.05 for third followed by Hollis in fifth with a time of 22.40. Thomas was the lone scorer in the 800-meter run, recording a time of 2:01.77 for seventh.
Taylor, as well as Kevon McKelvin, finished sixth and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Taylor recorded a time of 58.27 followed by McKelvin's time of 1:03.33.
